Very few celebrities have embraced the growing Web3 industry (NFTs, crypto, the metaverse) quite like Snoop Dogg. Since his music debut back in 1992, the prolific rapper, media personality, and entrepreneur has managed to remain in the public eye thanks in large part to his fearless embrace of new technologies and mediums. So it makes sense that the West Coast native would eventually gravitate towards the metaverse.

Last September it was announced that Snoop was developing his own virtual world inside The Sandbox, one of several rapidly-growing social metaverse platforms. Referred to as the “Snoopverse,” users can explore a custom virtual world featuring all things Snoop Dogg, collect valuable NFT drops, and watch exclusive in-world concerts. Snoop’s virtual world is so popular that one superfan recently spent a jaw-dropping $500,000 to be the rapper’s virtual neighbor.

Earlier this month, Snoop sent shockwaves through the music industry when he acquired the rights to legendary hip-hop label Death Row Records and announced plans to relaunch the company with a focus on Web3. Last week we received a new bit of metaverse-related content in the form of a new music video featuring the man himself.

The roughly three-minute video for the song “House I Built” begins with a visibly-stoned Snoop Dogg avatar sitting on a virtual throne discussing the price of his Sandbox Token, the primary form of currency in The Sandbox metaverse. From there the video turns into a virtual tour of the ever-growing Snoopverse world and its many digital commodities. Throughout the video, we see everything from virtual money baths and in-world concerts to exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of Snoop interacting with The Sandbox metaverse.

The video, while entertaining in its own right, is clearly meant to serve as an advertisement for the Snoopverse. Those who purchase an Early Access Pass will have full access to the upcoming virtual world. This includes the ability to explore a virtual recreation of Snoop’s IRL mansion and participate in exclusive Snoop Dogg concerts inside The Sandbox. That said, those looking to join can expect to pay a hefty fee.

A Snoopverse Early Access Pass currently costs 525.00 SAND ($1774.50) with that price changing on a regular basis. The platform does host free-to-play sessions on occasion, though non-paying members are given limited access to the full platform. You can learn more about how to join The Sandbox here.

“I’m always on the lookout for new ways of connecting with fans and what we’ve created in The Sandbox is the future of virtual hangouts, NFT drops, and exclusive concerts,” said Snoop Dogg in an official release. “We will be putting out artists through the metaverse,” he added. “Just like we broke the industry when we was the first independent to be major, I want to be the first major in the metaverse.”
