Cook started his career at IBM before joining Apple as COO in 1998 and CEO in 2011. In his early days at Apple, he worked closely with Steve Jobs (who died just months before he became CEO) to help turn around what was then a struggling company that was losing money hand over fist due to bad product decisions made by its leaders under Steve Jobs’s tenure as CEO—including dumping unused computers into landfills instead of recycling them because they were too expensive to repair or replace under warranty terms offered by manufacturers like Dell or Hewlett Packard Enterprise).
